WebHost4Life

  1. Web hosting companies can and will be sold, which may completely alter your service level. Try to set an alert on a search engine that will tell you when there are suspicious levels of write-ups about a web hosting provider. You can never be complacent, because good providers can go bad anytime.
  2. Your web registrar has power over your domain name. It may take control of the domain name against your will at its pleasure (such as, when you sever your relationship with its hosting service). Transferring your domain name elsewhere may take 7-10 days. However, if your domain name is with a different company, you can try to update the name servers only, which should go through within about a day.
  3. You can’t expect too much for a low monthly hosting fee.
  4. Always keep backups of your online content, if you need it to remain available. Keep it in a format that can be altered but is also easily transferred to a new web page.
